Guillermo del Toro will screen restored version of “Pan’s Labyrinth” at the Cannes Festival
The renowned festival will pay tribute to the Mexican film in the framework of its twentieth release anniversary
Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will be honored during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival through a special screening of his acclaimed film “Pan’s Labyrinth” in the framework of its twentieth release anniversary.
This presentation will give within the selection called “Cannes Classics”, where a total of 21 feature films, 3 shorts and six documentaries will participate.
“Almost twenty years ago, when the relationship between contemporary cinema and its own memory was about to be revolutionized by the incipient arrival of digital technology, the F “Cannes summer created Cannes Classics, a section that makes known the work of enhancing heritage,” declared the Festival organizing committee in a statement.
According to what has been said by the production, this commemorative activity will take place on May 12 and 13 in a ceremony that aims to celebrate the value of the work within the history of cinema, in the cultural and technical sphere.
In the case of the director, the presentation of “Pan’s Labyrinth” will be special for double. The reason? The screening will show the 4K version of the feature film, this was confirmed by the festival by revealing this selection.
The recognition awarded to Guillermo del Toro by the Cannes Festival highlights both his career and the cultural footprint of his work, s highlighting how that film presented at the festival in 2006 came to consolidate as a fundamental reference for cinema in Spanish.
In addition to the tribute to the Mexican director, the tribute to Torre Nilsson's work was confirmed with the 4K screening of “La casa del ángel”, from 1957; as well as to “Mich èle Firk” (“Une vie manifeste”, by Jean-Gabriel Périot) and to Jeanne Lavaur through the title that reinvented period cinema signed by Bérenger Thouin (“L’âge d’or”).
