The Oscar winner and lead singer of the band Thirty Seconds to Mars, Jared Leto, broke his silence after the broadcast of a BBC investigation that brings together complaints from four women who accuse him of sexual misconduct and assaults committed when they were teenagers.
Through an official statement, the artist flatly rejected all the allegations. "I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These statements are absolutely and categorically false," Leto, 54, said in a statement sent to the media after the publication of the documentary titled "Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret."
The investigation covers events that allegedly occurred between 2002 and 2016, a time when the interpreter was 34 years old. Among the testimonies collected, four women formally accuse him of crimes of assault and criminal sexual conduct. One of the complainants claims to have been attacked in a motel bathroom at the age of 17, while another maintains that the actor threatened to sexually assault her in a hotel room when she was 19 years old.
A third victim reported having had sexual encounters with the musician at the age of 17 in California - incurring statutory rape under state law - while a fourth woman claimed that Leto began harassing and manipulating her from the age of 16 through explicit phone calls, later trying to make her sign a confidentiality agreement that she rejected.
The British network noted that it verified the stories through conversations with family and friends of the victims, as well as by reviewing photographs, text messages and records from the time. In addition, the report includes testimonies from former officials of the technical team of his musical band, who expressed concern about the habitual presence of minors in the dressing rooms and recording studios.
