The moving farewell of Shakira and Ghetto Kids after the World Cup
The Colombian artist promised the children of the Ugandan foundation that she would meet them again in Madrid during her twelve-day residency in Spain.
Shakira's historic participation in the 2026 World Cup not only left an indelible musical impact with the presentation of the official song “Dai Dai” with Burna Boy, but also a moment of deep human emotion.
After dazzling millions of spectators during the halftime show of the grand finale at MetLife Stadium and selling out the Barclays Center in New York with her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour,” the Colombian singer-songwriter had a moving farewell with the members of the Ugandan foundation Ghetto Kids.
The alliance between the artist from Barranquilla and the African group was born spontaneously when the children shared a choreography of the World Cup theme on social networks. Impacted by their charisma and talent, Shakira invited them to share the main stage during the World Cup final and their dates on North American soil.
In New York, the little ones stole glances by lifting the singer on their shoulders amid applause and acclamations from the public shouting “Our queen, Shakira.”
However, the most emotional moment occurred behind the scenes at the end of the show. In a video released by the interpreter herself on her Instagram account, the children are seen visibly moved and in tears when they understand that they had to return to their country. Shakira, with a broken voice, comforted the little ones by making them a promise:
"Don't be sad, because we are going to be friends forever. I promise you. I will call you when you arrive in Uganda. Milan and Sasha will call you, and maybe I will see you in Madrid," the singer affectionately expressed to them, opening the door for them to accompany her on her twelve-concert residency scheduled for October 2026 in Spain.
The Colombian took advantage of the situation to transform this artistic meeting into a global call for social reflection.
"The Ghetto Kids have infected us with their joy and have deeply inspired us to remind us that there are millions of children who live in oblivion, owners of enormous potential waiting for an opportunity. What could be more urgent for our governments and businessmen than investing in childhood?", reflected the artist.
With this emotional farewell, Shakira closes the North American leg of her tour before a break prior to her disembarkation in European territory.
