Tom Holland spoke about his diagnosis of ADHD and dyslexia
The British actor explained how these diagnoses have affected his life not only in learning and concentration, but also in his creative work
Tom Holland spoke openly about his ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) diagnosis and dyslexia, revealing how they impact his personal and professional life.
In a recent interview with IGN, Holland shared that he was diagnosed with dyslexia at age seven, and that he was later also diagnosed with ADHD.
The actor explained that these diagnoses have affected his life not only in terms of learning and concentration, but also in his creative work.
“I have ADHD and I'm dyslexic, and sometimes when someone gives me a blank canvas I feel a little intimidated. Sometimes you face those challenges when you're developing a character,” he said.
Holland acknowledged that he has found support both in activities such as board games, especially with LEGO, and in his family and work environments. He's learned to use his creativity to overcome difficulties and emphasized that interacting with new ideas and unconventional ways of thinking promotes "healthy creativity." He also confessed that, because of his dyslexia, he asks for help when posting on social media, showing how important the support of those around him is. Despite the difficulties, Holland has managed to establish himself as one of the most successful actors of his generation, and assures that his experience with ADHD and dyslexia have enriched his perspective, both at work and in his personal life. The actor also mentioned how valuable the support of his partner, Zendaya, with whom he has been in a relationship since 2016, has been.
