Patients seeking treatment at the ophthalmology department of AIIMS Gorakhpur are set to receive significant benefits, thanks to new initiatives aimed at providing accessible eye care. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, individuals holding Ayushman cards can now undergo eye operations free of cost. Additionally, patients opting for the 'phaco method' for lens fitting will only pay Rs 4,000, significantly lower than private hospital charges.

The availability of lenses at the Amrit Pharmacy within the AIIMS campus further enhances affordability, with lenses priced at Rs 3,000. Upon arrival at the hospital, patients can purchase and fit the lenses themselves. A nominal registration fee of Rs 1,000 grants access to free lens fitting surgeries, ensuring that patients receive quality care without financial burden.

Professor Gopal Krishna Pal, Chief Executive Officer of AIIMS Gorakhpur, emphasizes the substantial cost savings now available to patients compared to private hospital charges.

Dr. Alka Tripathi, from the Ophthalmology Department, highlights the installation of the Centurion Gold Phaco Machine, enabling efficient cataract operations for over 650 patients since its installation last October. Notably, free operations are now extended to patients with Ayushman cards, offering accessible treatment options.

The ophthalmology department at AIIMS Gorakhpur is equipped to fit premium lenses such as multifocal toric and extended depth of focus, in addition to standard lenses. Patients have the flexibility to bring their own lenses for surgery, further enhancing convenience.

With a minimal incision size of only 2.2 mm, patients undergoing surgery experience quick recovery and are discharged within hours. The department also specializes in critical operations including hard cataracts, glaucoma, micro cornea, and coloboma, providing comprehensive care to patients in need.
