An encounter took place between security forces and terrorists in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on Wednesday. There is firing between security forces and terrorists in Kokernag Halura Gandul area of the district. Commanding Colonel of Rashtriya Rifles and three officers including DSP of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been martyred.

The official said that a joint team of police and army cordoned off a cordon and search operation in Halura Gandul area of Kokarnag in Anantnag. As the joint team moved towards the suspected spot, the terrorists already hiding there started firing on the forces, leading to an encounter. During the firing, an army officer and a police officer were shot. Both the injured have been immediately admitted to the nearest hospital for treatment. The operation is still going on.

Earlier, an encounter took place between terrorists and security forces on Tuesday evening in Rajori district of Jammu division. Two terrorists have been killed in this. Regarding Rajori encounter, ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh said that the second terrorist was killed on Wednesday. A terrorist was killed in the encounter that started on Tuesday evening. After this the firing stopped late at night. The operation started once again on Wednesday morning, in which the security forces have been successful. However, an army soldier was also martyred in the encounter. Apart from this, three including a police SPO have been injured.

Officials said that three security force officers, including an army colonel, have been martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Kokernag area of Anantnag district of Kashmir. He said that Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, DSP Humayun Bhat of Jammu and Kashmir Police were seriously injured in the firing, after which all three were martyred. He said that Bhatt died due to excessive bleeding.

Six-year-old Army dog Kent was martyred while saving the life of a soldier during the Rajouri encounter. Before this he had participated in nine operations. Kent, part of the dog unit of the 21st Army, lost his life on Tuesday while trying to save his handler in the Rajouri district of the Union Territory.
