The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) raised confirmed cases of Ebola to 3,075, including 1,354 deaths, due to the outbreak of this disease declared in the east of the country on May 15, just ten days after having surpassed two thousand cases and shortly after having surpassed one thousand deaths.

According to the latest bulletin from the Congolese Ministry of Communication and Media, with data collected up to July 24, the fatality rate currently stands at 44%. In addition, 755 patients are in a situation of “isolation/hospitalization” and 556 people have managed to recover from the disease, while the contact tracing rate rises to 76.4%.

“Continuous transmission phase”

Five Congolese provinces have been affected by the Ebola outbreak so far: Ituri (epicenter of the outbreak), North Kivu, South Kivu and Haut-Uele (east), as well as Tshopo (central-north).

"Epidemiological data are now more precise (...). Contact tracing activities continue to advance, while strengthening surveillance and diagnostic capabilities, in particular thanks to an additional laboratory, improves the detection and confirmation of cases in the affected areas," the Ministry noted.

However, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) of the DRC warned in its own bulletin that “the data indicate that the epidemic remains in “a phase of continued transmission, with a high level of virus circulation.”
