The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking formation of a naming commission. A petition was filed in the court demanding the constitution of this commission to find out the original names of the ancient religious places.

In which it was said that a naming commission should be constituted to find out the original names of historical and cultural religious places of the country and to remove the names of the invaders from their present names. It was also said in the petition that the Supreme Court should direct the Archaeological Department to publish the old names. 

The bench said that it will revive those issues which can create ruckus in the country. While giving the verdict, the bench said that the history of the country should not be disturbed by its present and future generations. Court said, Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life. There is no fanaticism in this religion. Don't dig up the past that will only create enemies. 

The Supreme Court has given protection to Congress leader Pawan Kheda from action till March 3 in the matter of remarks against the Prime Minister. Court gave time to Assam and Uttar Pradesh government to file reply on Pawan Khera's petition. The court said that till then the interim bail will remain intact. The Supreme Court will hear Pawan Kheda's plea against the registration of the FIR on March 3.

The Supreme Court has stayed the installation of paver blocks on the roads in Matheran, Maharashtra till further orders. The court said that this would prima facie destroy the natural beauty of the hill station. A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Vikram Nath was considering the applications, which included issues related to allowing e-rickshaws and installation of paver blocks on roads in Matheran, a small hill station located about 85 km from Mumbai.
