Although summer represents one of the peak hiring seasons among the younger generations, an analysis recently developed by the personal finance company WalletHub predicts that a greater number of young people this year are at risk of unemployment, especially in specific entities of the country where the youth poverty rate rises.

According to the report, it is estimated that 13% of this population neither studies nor works, which may represent a problem for the future. "The states most affected by this problem, as well as high rates of youth poverty, widespread drug use and low academic results, need to become aware and invest more in improving the living conditions of young people. Otherwise, the future economic and social progress of the state will be in danger," highlights Chip Lupo, analyst at WalletHub.

To find out which states present this problem, WalletHub researchers analyzed the 50 states in the country, determining various aspects such as the percentage of disconnected youth, the labor force participation rate, and the youth poverty rate.

The research showed that Louisiana is the state that leads the list mainly because the highest percentage of young people between 18 and 24 years old do not attend school, do not work and do not have a degree beyond high school.

"This represents 16.6% of the state's young adults. Additionally, Louisiana has the seventh highest percentage of people ages 18 to 24 without a high school diploma, the second highest youth poverty rate, and the third highest teen birth rate in the country," adds Lupo.
