In a clear reference to China and its all-weather ally Pakistan, the Defense Ministry said the Indian Army is prepared for all military threats arising out of modernization and aggressive actions of enemies. The Army is focusing on maintaining preparedness in line with India's desire to ensure stability and dominance along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and the Line of Control (LoC).

The army continuously monitors and reviews emerging threats to national security. The Defense Ministry has reported in its annual review that the situation along the LoC remained relatively peaceful with a ceasefire understanding between the armies of India and Pakistan since February last year. The Defense Ministry said, Pakistan has retained the proxy war infrastructure. Active terrorist training camps, presence of terrorists in launch pads and frequent infiltration attempts prove the nefarious intentions of the neighboring country. Not only this, Pakistan has also been conspiring to mislead the youth of the country with the help of drug trafficking gangs. Weapons are also provided from across the border to push these youths on the path of terror.  

The army has been strengthened by the successful test firing of extended range version of BrahMos missile, Prithvi-II missile, Agni-IV and Agni-III missiles. The review also mentions the successful test-firing of the indigenous anti-tank guided missile 'Helina' with the submarine-launched ballistic missile INS Arihant. There have been only three such incidents since February 2021 as compared to 4645 ceasefire violations in 2020. There was cross-border firing only once in 2022.

Army foiled 12 attempts to infiltrate terrorists from Pakistan on LoC this year. During this, 18 terrorists were killed and a large amount of weapons were captured.

The Army is also building capability to deal with emerging threats in the cyber, space and information domains.

The Integrated Battle Group will enhance the collective strength of the three services, the Ministry of Defense has said that the army has continuously carried out counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist operations and maintained high training standards, while constantly reviewing the emerging and future threats to national security. 

All formations of the Indian Army will be unified on an Integrated Battle Group (IBG) model in a phased manner, the Defense Ministry has said in its annual report on Army reforms. IBG is progressing well and Phase 1 is nearing completion. Under this, various streams of the Army's target force have been integrated into the new formation which will include artillery guns, tanks, air defense and logistics elements.
