On her first international tour since the 2024 presidential election, former Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, launched harsh criticism of President Donald Trump's government, which she called the “most ruthless, corrupt and incompetent” administration the country has ever experienced. During her participation in the Austrian World Summit, an international conference on the environment held in Vienna and organized by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harris assured that many of the actions taken by Trump during his second term were anticipated by his critics before the elections.

The former vice president maintained that the Republican president has used federal institutions, including the Department of Justice, to persecute his political adversaries. According to him, this scenario was foreseeable due to the promises made by Trump during the presidential campaign.

Harris also expressed confidence that the Democratic Party will do well in the November congressional elections, when numerous congressional seats will be up for grabs. In his opinion, there is a large sector of voters that does not support the policies promoted by the current administration.

“Two-thirds of Americans did not vote for this political project,” said the former official when analyzing the results of the 2024 presidential elections.

Criticism of foreign and economic policy

The former vice president also questioned Trump's international strategy, especially in relation to Iran. Harris described the recent military conflict promoted by Washington as a “chosen war” and assured that the majority of Americans did not want a new confrontation in the Middle East.

Likewise, he argued that war tensions have contributed to the increase in energy prices and the increase in the cost of living for millions of families. According to him, many American households face a vulnerable financial situation due to inflation and the rise in the cost of essential goods.

Harris also maintained that regardless of how negotiations related to the Iranian nuclear program conclude, Trump will end up declaring a political victory, even if the final result is similar to the agreements reached during the Barack Obama administration.

The former vice president's statements reflect the increasingly confrontational tone that is beginning to emerge ahead of the midterm elections, considered by both parties as a key test to measure citizen support for the White House.

Harris and Schwarzenegger defend climate cooperation

Beyond partisan politics, the conference also served to show a common front between figures from different ideological currents in the face of environmental challenges.

Harris and Schwarzenegger agreed that the fight against pollution and climate change requires collaboration between governments, companies, cities and citizens, regardless of political differences. The former Republican governor of California, who has maintained positions critical of Trump on environmental issues, defended the expansion of renewable energy and questioned the current administration's support for highly polluting industries such as coal.

Schwarzenegger said advances in clean energy continue to occur at the state, local and business levels, even as there are setbacks from Washington. As he explained, the global push for renewable technologies shows that the energy transition maintains a growth trajectory.

For his part, Harris insisted that environmental protection must also be presented as an economic opportunity for consumers, highlighting that clean energy can represent significant savings for families and businesses.

The former vice president concluded by pointing out that many citizens believe that, once the current presidential term has concluded, there will be new opportunities to strengthen public policies and respond more effectively to the economic and social needs of the country.
