The Government of West Bengal has declared the first day of the Bengali New Year (Poila Boisakh) as the state day. Furthermore, 'Banglar Mati Banglar Jal' written by Nobel laureate Rabindranath has been declared the state song. This information was given in an official notification.

In the order issued by outgoing Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi on Saturday, it has been said that the State Day will be called 'Bangla Day'. According to this, it will be 'mandatory' to play the state anthem at the beginning of all official functions in West Bengal. "After careful consideration, it is announced that 'Poila Boisakh' will be celebrated as the state day and named as 'Bangla Day'," the order said.

It further said, the song 'Banglar Mati Banglar Jal' composed by Rabindranath Tagore will be the state song. The estimated playing time of the state song is 1 minute and 59 seconds. According to the order, everyone should stand at attention when the state anthem is played and collective singing of it should be encouraged.

Statehood Day will be celebrated with respect and dignity by all the people of West Bengal every year, the order said. The State Anthem shall be compulsorily played with due respect in all functions of the State Government at the beginning of the function and the National Anthem shall be compulsorily played at its conclusion.

 

The West Bengal Assembly had passed a resolution in September. In which 'Poila Baisakh', the first day of the Bengali calendar, was declared as the state day and Rabindranath Tagore's song 'Banglar Mati Banglar Jal' was declared as the state song. The order said that keeping in mind the rich culture and heritage of West Bengal, the need for declaration of a State Day and a State Song was felt for a long time.
