Will the situation at Delhi airport become normal after so many days? Jyotiraditya Scindia's big statement
Scindia said, 'No one had anticipated such a crowd for the winter festival holidays'. He said that efforts have been made to remove those obstacles due to which there was chaos at the airport.
IGI Airport Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said today that it will take seven to ten days for the situation to return to normal at IGI Delhi Airport. He said the huge rush of passengers at the airport was 'unexpected' and efforts have been made to clear the bottlenecks that have caused chaos at the airport in the last two days.
Let us tell you that on Tuesday, many airlines had asked passengers to reach three to four hours before the flight time. Indigo asked its passengers to arrive at least 3.5 hours in advance for domestic departures and carry only one piece of luggage for smooth security check. At the same time, Air India asked international passengers to come four hours before.
'Had not anticipated such a crowd'
Scindia said,Nobody had anticipated such a crowd for the winter festival holidays. Airports have to provide a smooth and efficient service between the demand of passengers wishing to travel and the supply by airlines. It is the responsibility of the airport operator to provide this. I had a meeting with all the airport operators about this.
The Union Minister said that the difficulties started from the entry gate and reached the security posts. For this, he has suggested some emergency measures, which include installation of CCTV cameras at the gates and a central control, which will take passengers to the gate with minimum rush.
What else did Scindia say ?
Scindia said, 'If there is a wait of 20 minutes at Gate No. 6 and only 2 minutes at Gate No. 11, it should be switched immediately. It should also be mounted on the display screen. After my discussion with the airport operator, this is what is being done now.
The number of check points inside the airport will be increased from 11 to 20. In today's situation there are 17 points. He said, 'We have also removed all unnecessary barricades.'
Scindia said, Things will get better in the next 7-10 days as these new measures have also been fully implemented. We also need to coordinate with all the airlines and hence the implementation will take a few days.
