Donald Trump will withdraw more than 5,000 US troops from Germany
Donald Trump follows through on his warning by confirming the withdrawal of more than 5,000 US troops from German soil
“The Iranians are, without a doubt, very skilled negotiators, or Or rather, very skilled at not negotiating, allowing Americans to travel to Islamabad and then leave without any results.
An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards. That is why I hope this ends as soon as possible,” the German official stated.
True to his word this Saturday, Trump declared that more than 5,000 soldiers would begin leaving German territory in the coming months.
“We are going to cut back drastically, and we are going to cut far more than 5,000,” he told the press from West Palm Beach, Florida.
The figure proposed by the New York tycoon would represent approximately 15% of the 36,436 military personnel stationed at military bases in Germany.
From the president's perspective, the nation's contribution to the defense of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is not proportional to the amount demanded by his administration and That is the reason for removing a proportional number of US troops.
In response to Trump's stance, the Republican chairs of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees issued a statement acknowledging their concern about diminishing security in the territory of one of the United States' most important allies in Europe and requesting that the president relocate the troops leaving Germany to other areas of Europe.
“Instead of withdrawing forces completely from the continent, it is in the United States' best interest to maintain a strong deterrent capability in Europe by moving these 5,000 US troops east.”
These allies have made substantial investments to host US troops, reducing costs for the American taxpayer and, at the same time, strengthening NATO's front line to help deter a much more costly conflict,” the document states.
