Mark Savaya, well-known cannabis businessman, is appointed as special envoy to Iraq
Mark Savaya is also a well-known organizer of events supporting the Republican president during his campaign
Mark Savaya is the owner of a chain of dispensaries and a well-known organizer of events supporting the Republican president. He was appointed to the diplomatic position through an announcement on Truth Social.
“I am pleased to announce that Mark Savaya will serve as Special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq. His deep understanding of the U.S.-Iraq relationship and his connections in the region will advance the interests of the American people,” Trump said.
“Mark was a key figure in my campaign in Michigan, where he, along with others, helped deliver a record-breaking turnout among Muslim Americans. Congratulations, Mark!” the president added.
Savaya has gained notoriety for organizing pro-Republican leader-themed events, such as the so-called “Red Party.”
Savaya launched an intensive advertising campaign to promote his cannabis company, with large billboards placed throughout Detroit, prompting calls for city council to limit such ads.
Despite this, Trump insisted that “His deep understanding of U.S.-Iraq relations and his connections in the region will advance the interests of the American people.”
“Mark was a key figure in my campaign in Michigan, where he and others helped secure a record voter turnout among Muslim states,” he insisted.
Since his return to the White House, Trump has chosen loyal defenders of his positions for his team, for example, one of the most faithful is his nominee for Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
Meanwhile, oilman Chris Wright, one of the Republican Party’s mega-donors, was chosen to head the Department of Energy, while former commentator Pete Hegseth, perhaps one of the most controversial, became Secretary of Defense.
