US President Donald Trump confirmed that he called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “fucking crazy” during a phone call to discuss the de-escalation in Lebanon, but affirmed that the two work very well together.

“I was a little upset by their constant confrontations with Lebanon,” he said in the New York Post's 'Pod Force One' podcast, published this Wednesday.

US officials with knowledge of the events had told Axios on Monday that the reproaches against Netanyahu show the president's frustration with the intensification of the Israeli offensive in Lebanon, which puts the current fragile ceasefire at risk and hinders the complex peace dialogue between the US and Iran.

“You're fucking crazy,” Trump said, according to now confirmed reports, after Netanyahu warned that he will attack “terrorist targets” in Beirut if the Shiite militia Hezbollah does not stop its attacks against Israel.

After the call with the Israeli leader and after maintaining unusual contacts with Hezbollah, the American announced on Monday that both Israel and the Shiite group were committed to stopping their attacks.

Tehran had announced hours before that it was pausing its talks with Washington in retaliation for the Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, although Trump denied on Tuesday that there had been a suspension in the negotiations and assured that they continue.

In recent weeks, both countries have exchanged drafts for an agreement to end the war and allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for the global oil trade.

Among Iran's latest demands to close the peace pact is the cessation of the Israeli offensive in Lebanon.

In the same interview with the New York Post podcast, Trump said he would “like” to meet Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Mokhtaba Khamenei, and stated that he will probably meet with him “at some point, depending on how things develop.” EFE
