President Donald Trump recognized the noble action of a young lifeguard who saved a child from drowning on the beach in Santa Cruz, California, and promises to award him a high distinction.
Through a video shared on social networks, the story that moved the head of the nation and his family was revealed.
Because huge waves hit the eastern Pacific Ocean this weekend as a result of tropical cyclones, the change in the ocean current took a 10-year-old boy by surprise who was in the sea a few meters from the shore, on Seabright beach.
In a matter of seconds, the little boy was dragged by the waves before the eyes of a young 16-year-old lifeguard who did not mind putting himself at risk in order to rescue him.
Other bathers and a second lifeguard quickly came to help the child until they put him in a safe place.
However, the greatest credit fell to the young lifeguard, because if he had not acted in time, the current would have dragged the little boy out to sea where he would have probably drowned.
The dramatic moment was recorded by the mobile phone of a civilian named Scott Vander Dussen who, during an interview with the NBC television network, praised the heroic action.
"I'm sure that if the lifeguards hadn't been there, I wouldn't have been able to get home that night. I'm glad it ended that way," he said.
One of the people most moved when watching the video of the rescue was Eric Trump, son of the nation's president, who without hesitation proposed rewarding the brave determination of the boy who saved the life of a little boy.
"Give this 16-year-old first responder the highest civilian honor. This is truly America at its best. Well done!" he wrote.
Upon learning what happened, Donald Trump agreed with his son and, through a publication on the Truth Social platform, anticipated that the young lifeguard will be awarded in Washington.
"We are going to bring this young hero and his family to the White House, perhaps along with the child he saved, to award him a High Civilian Decoration. Very brave, he deserves it!" he wrote.
