Trump's popularity plummets over Iran, economy
A New York Times poll reveals that the majority of Americans think it was "a mistake" for Trump to start war against Iran
President Donald Trump's popularity is plummeting, as confirmed by a recent New York Times poll, which reveals that voters believe that the Republican made the "mistake" of starting a war against Iran, in addition to increasing concern about the economy.
57% disapprove of the president's management, who registers only 37% approval.
The cost of living (69%) leads the Republican president as the worst rating; the war in Iran is placed in second position (65%); the economy in general (64%) in third position and the Israel-Palestine conflict in fourth with 62%, while migration issues occupy fifth position with 56%.
The Times/Siena report confirms what other polls reveal: President Trump's policies leave the Republican Party in a difficult political situation for the November midterm elections.
The report highlights that only Republicans generally approve of Trump's management, including the war against Iran.
“Independent voters, in particular, have been more dissatisfied with Mr. Trump,” the report says. “69% [of independent voters] disapproved of his management, an increase compared to the 62% recorded in a survey […] January.”
44% of voters said Trump's current policies had hurt them personally, up from 36% last fall, the report added.
Another report, from ThinkNow, coincides with the Times' findings on economic concerns.
The report highlighted that inflation continues to be the main economic concern for virtually all groups of voters consulted. However, the cost of housing weighs particularly heavily among Latinos and Democrats.
However, inflation is a worrying issue for the majority at 81% among general voters; 82% among Democrats; 79% among Republicans, and 76% among independents.
