Amir Khan assures that Hamzah Sheeraz can beat Canelo
Amir Khan explained that Sheeraz youth, jab and height will be a problem for Canelo Alvarez, so this fight would not be good for the Guadalajara native.
Amir Khan, former world champion and boxing analyst, assured that Hamzah Sheeraz can beat Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, but he does not believe that the Mexican will agree to get into the ring with him.
In statements to IFL TV, Khan explained that the Sheeraz’s youth, powerful jab, and height will be a problem for Canelo Alvarez, so this fight would not be a good one for the Guadalajara native.
“Canelo always has problems with those who are taller than him. And (Sheeraz) has a powerful jab. Honestly, I think he can beat Canelo, but I don’t think Canelo will accept that fight. Because, if you think about it, he has a lot to lose,” he said.
“He’ll think: ‘Why do I have to fight this young and hungry boxer? ’ Unless Turki (Alalshikh) bets and says he has to fight him. So the pressure to make that fight falls on Turki. As a boxing fan, I would like to see that fight, because I think Hamzah beats him,” he added.
In his first appearance at 168 pounds, Hamzah Sheeraz dominated and knocked out Edgar Berlanga. In the fourth round, he knocked down the Puerto Rican twice, and at the beginning of the fifth, a powerful right-left combination sent him to the canvas again, securing the victory.
After the fight, Sheeraz expressed interest in fighting Canelo Alvarez. “I’m not going to sit here and talk a lot about someone like (Canelo). But it would be an honor to share the ring with him. I really would. (…) One thing I can guarantee is that if I ever share the ring with Canelo, it won’t be like his last fight (against William Scull), where his opponent was trying to escape,” he said. In fact, Turki Alalshikh had already mentioned that he liked the Briton as the Mexican’s next opponent – ??who will first have to defend his title as undisputed champion against Terence Crawford – and after his victory, the Arab sheikh confirmed this information on social media. Hamzah Sheeraz, 26, moved up to super middleweight after drawing with Carlos Adames at 160 pounds and losing the opportunity to be crowned champion. The Briton has a record of 21 wins, zero losses, and one draw.Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, became the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time after defeating William Scull and now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his professional career.
