Conmebol confirmed the headquarters of the 2025 Copa Libertadores final
The Estadio Monumental in Lima will once again be the scene of a continental final
The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) announced this Monday that the Estadio Monumental in Lima, home of Universitario de Deportes, will be the venue for the 2025 Copa Libertadores final. The match that will define the new champion will be played on November 29 and will mark the second time that this venue has hosted the most important club event in South America.
El Monumental de Lima, the stadium of the Conmebol Libertadores final, the organization published on the social network X, accompanied by an image of the stadium, considered the largest in Peru, with a capacity for around 80,000 people.
The city of Lima had already been confirmed as a host in April, but until now the stadium had not been made official. The National Stadium was also among the options, which kept the uncertainty for several months.
A stadium with history in the Libertadores
The Monumental already hosted a final in 2019, the year in which it was played as a single match for the first time. That edition left an unforgettable memory: River Plate was winning until the final minutes, but Flamengo turned it around with two goals from Gabriel Barbosa "Gabigol" to be crowned champion for the second time in their history.
The announcement of the venue comes just before the start of the round of 16 of this edition, a stage in which Universitario, the local club, is still in the competition.
This week, high-level matches will be played. On Tuesday, Fortaleza (Brazil) will host Velez (Argentina), Atlético Nacional (Colombia) will face Sao Paulo (Brazil) and Penarol (Uruguay) will face Racing (Argentina).
On Wednesday it will be the turn of Cerro Porteno (Paraguay) against Estudiantes (Argentina) and the Brazilian duel between Flamengo and Internacional.
Thursday will close with three matches: Botafogo (Brazil) against Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito (Ecuador), Libertad (Paraguay) against River Plate (Argentina) and Universitario (Peru) against Palmeiras (Brazil).
With this designation, Lima consolidates its position as one of Conmebol's favorite cities for decisive matches, not only due to its infrastructure and hotel capacity, but also due to its strategic location to welcome fans from all over the region.
