Julio Cesar Chavez affirms that the lawyers are already working to prepare the defense of his son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and made it clear that they are going to fight to prove their innocence.
In an interview with Fight Hub, Chavez commented that Junior is not a criminal and that his family is dismayed by what is happening, since in the three years he was in the United States there were no problems.
The lawyers in the United States are working to see if my son stays there. Or we are already prepared in case my son arrives here (in Mexico), we already have the lawyers and everything. We are going to fight, we are going to fight under the laws of Mexico if my son is transferred here to Mexico, he said.
"The truth is we are calm with the authorities, who are going to act under the law and we are going to fight. Because my son, thank God, will be everything you want, but less a criminal and all those things he is being accused of. Yes, they had informed us, but that was like three years ago. But there was never a requirement, there was never anything and how strange that until now, but well, that's how it is..." he added.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was detained by ICE on July 2 in Los Angeles for having an irregular immigration status, since his B2 tourist visa expired in 2024. The Mexican submitted an application to obtain permanent residence in the United States because he married Frida Munoz, a US citizen who according to authorities is linked to the Sinaloa Cartel because she was in a relationship with the deceased son of Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman. Shortly after, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that Chavez Jr. had an arrest warrant since March 2023 issued by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) in Mexico for organized crime and arms trafficking. Reason why they were processing his deportation.
Julio has been interned the times he's been in Mexico, we have all the evidence. That he knows those people (from the cartel), well he knows them, just like I know them, but that doesn't indicate that I'm a drug trafficker, but it is respected, each to their own job. But we are going to trust the laws, we are all calm that my son is innocent, he concluded.
Just a week ago Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost to Jake Paul by unanimous decision. The boxer had problems with addiction and with the justice system in Los Angeles for possession of a ghost gun. After entering rehabilitation and having the charges dismissed, Junior returned to the ring with a victory over Uriah Hall in 2024.
Now the son of the Great Mexican Champion, 38 years old, who has a professional record of 54 wins (34 by knockout), 7 losses and one draw once again faces problems with the law.
