The reactions after the error Rodrigo Parra with the Pumas
Ricardo Ferretti called Rodrigo Parra shrill for crying after the match against Santos Laguna. Pumas supports the young goalkeeper
The first day of the Apertura 2025 had the particularity of a special debut at the home of Santos Laguna. Rodrigo Parra, a 17-year-old goalkeeper, became the youngest goalkeeper to debut in Liga MX. Parra defended the goal for the Pumas de la UNAM, but his first match didn't go as smoothly as expected.
The young goalkeeper for the Auriazul team was thrashed 3-0 in this match. The problem was that Rodrigo Parra was caught out in two of Santos' three goals. In the first, Parra was slightly offside, and Aldo López Vargas took advantage of this mistake and scored a goal from three-quarters of the field. Due to his height, Parra was unable to stop the lofted shot.
In the second half, Parra made another mistake, but this time he was more responsible. Rodrigo Parra received a ball while under pressure from Ramiro Sordo. Instead of clearing, the young goalkeeper tried to control the ball, but Sordo was already on top of him, and the match ended 2-0 for Santos.
After the match, Rodrigo Parra was quite upset by this bitter debut. In fact, the young 17-year-old goalkeeper shed a few tears on the pitch. Carlos Acevedo, Santos Laguna's goalkeeper, went to console him and offer some words of encouragement. Ricardo Ferretti rejected this attitude.
"A screaming kid, he messes up and starts crying, imagine. With two slaps and that's it," Ferretti said on ESPN's Generacion F. "Tuca" is a strategist known for his character. The Brazilian coach expressed his disagreement with the young Pumas goalkeeper's reaction.
Support from Pumas
After the match, there were comments about Rodrigo Parra's performance. Alex Larrea, Efrain Juarez's assistant coach, acknowledged that these are difficult times for the young goalkeeper. However, the assistant stressed that the player has the support of the coaching staff.
"He has our full support, these are difficult times. He has the full support of the team, these are situations that happen, he was a champion a few months ago here with the U-17s,He was the best player in the match (...) Today's circumstances brought a misfortune that can happen to anyone, and that's it. He has our full support and we trust in him because he's a great goalkeeper, he's a great person, and he's going to give a lot to all of us at Pumas. He's a hometown boy, and we're very proud to have him on the squad," said Larrea.
