Cheapest tickets to see Dodgers and Blue Jays in the first game of the World Series soar to $1,429 dollars
Tickets for the start of the Fall Classic in Toronto sold out in minutes and now it is only possible to get them for almost 10 times more
The cheapest tickets for the first game of the MLB final, the so-called World Series that will be played starting Friday between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers have shot up to nearly $1,500.
Tickets to Toronto's Rogers Centre, which can only be purchased through the multinational Ticketmaster, sold out within minutes of going on sale Tuesday morning. The Blue Jays' stadium seats just over 39,000.
While the official price for the cheapest seats is around $250 Canadian ($180 US), on Ticketmaster's own website those same tickets are now being resold for over $2,000 Canadian, or $1,429 US.
The price for the best seats, which normally cost $500, is over $12,000 Canadian ($8,578 US).
Some users have reported that, despite being on the waiting list to purchase tickets, they were unable to access the tickets because they immediately disappeared as soon as they went on sale. And within seconds, they appeared on Ticketmaster’s resale market with exorbitant prices.
The last time the Blue Jays made it to the World Series, in 1993, the cheapest tickets cost $32 Canadian ($22 US).
The prices for the finals have sparked protests from fans, including Doug Ford, the mayor of Ontario, where Toronto is located.
Ford said Wednesday that he believed “people are being ripped off” and warned that he would investigate Ticketmaster’s monopoly on selling tickets to shows.
