The manufacturer confirmed the recall of 255,404 units corresponding to models manufactured between 2012 and 2018 due to a problem that, in certain circumstances, can cause the engine to shut down while the vehicle is in circulation.

This is a situation that is especially worrying because the problem can occur without prior warning, increasing the risk of incidents both in the city and on the road.
Problem linked to the fuel system
Information presented to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States indicates that the failure is related to the vehicle's evaporative emissions system.
According to the investigation, a valve responsible for managing fuel vapors can become blocked in the open position. When this happens, inadequate pressure is generated within the system, a condition that can affect normal engine operation.
The problem becomes more delicate because some affected vehicles do not have a software calibration capable of correctly identifying this anomaly.
Previous repair did not always work
Some of the Focuses included in this new campaign had already undergone a safety review years ago. However, Ford later discovered that some logs indicated that the update had been completed successfully when, in fact, proper installation of the software may not have been completed.
This situation led the company to expand the scope of the investigation and order a new intervention to ensure that all vehicles receive the necessary correction.
Signs that could alert the driver
Before an unexpected engine shutdown occurs, some owners may notice certain symptoms. These include the activation of the “Check Engine” light, incorrect fuel level indications or erroneous calculations about the remaining range.
Driving difficulties or irregular engine operation may also occur under certain conditions.
The solution is an update to the Powertrain Control Module software. Additionally, technicians will perform additional checks to confirm that the correct version is installed and working properly.
Ford reported that repairs will be completely free for affected owners. Likewise, those who have incurred expenses related to this problem in the past could be eligible for a refund, as long as they meet the conditions established by the company.
The manufacturer plans to start notifications to dealers and owners on July 6, 2026. From that moment on, drivers will be able to verify if their vehicle is included in the campaign and schedule the corresponding intervention at an authorized dealer.
