Javier Eduardo López was one of the most promising Mexican footballers of the last 20 years. Chofis was a determining figure in his first stage c on the Chivas of Guadalajara. Miguel Ponce, former player of Rebaño Sagrado, considers that López had the same conditions of a legend like Lionel Messi.

Miguel Ponce played with Javier Eduardo López in Chivas of Guadalajara. In the seasons in which Matías Almeyda was in command of team, last successful years of the club, Chofis was a stellar figure in the team. Ponce admired López's qualities as a player.

“Chofis López was outstanding, what we all saw when he was very well with Almeyda, he was a better version. Totally a waste what happened with him, because he was the player who could do different things in Chivas and in the national team," said Ponce in statements compiled by Mediotiempo.

The “Pocho” compared Javier Eduardo López with Lionel Messi. Miguel Ponce highlighted the imbalance of the Mexican that made him a difficult player to mark. The “Mexican Messi” who got lost on the path.

"Totally, he had similar conditions to Messi, there were friendly matches in the United States in which you saw how he took away one, another, super close. That's how it was. That bastard was complicated," he added.

Chofis in the Chivas

Javier Eduardo López played 192 games with the Chivas Guadalajara shirt. Chofis scored 24 goals and conceded 12 assists in just more than 10,000 minutes played with the Rebaño Sagrado.

The footballer born in Torreón went to MLS along with Matías Almeyda to play for San José Earthquakes, but his performance was decreasing. Chofis returned to Chivas, but his level wasn't the same. López made a brief return to Pachuca, but couldn't earn the trust of his coaches. At 31 years old, Chofis currently is a non-contract player who hasn't played an official game since September 2025.
