Dak Prescott was Tony Romo's replacement as quarterback and 10 seasons later he is close to surpassing him with the record for most passing yards.

Prescott will have the opportunity to surpass it in the next game this Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cowboys quarterback has 3,024 passing yards and needs 159 yards to tie Romo and 155 to surpass him for career completions with the Texas franchise.

Both are near the top of the club's all-time passing lists, which include two Pro Football Hall of Famers and multiple Super Bowl winners, Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman.

Prescott broke Aikman's completion record earlier this season and has 3,033.

He needs 14 touchdown passes to break Romo's record of 247. Another 200 pass attempts will push Prescott past Aikman.

Dak Prescott and Tony Romo have one thing left to prove: the playoffs

Although Romo was one of the best quarterbacks in franchise history, the QB had a 2-4 playoff record without ever reaching a Super Bowl.

While Prescott's record is 2-5 in the postseason.

Prescott is under contract through the 2028 season, giving him at least two more seasons to try to end the 30-year championship drought.

The Eagles, first in the NFC East, are atop the conference with a 9-2 record, the same as the Rams, but their greater number of wins against NFC teams gives them the advantageous position to play in Philadelphia hosts its playoff games. Hence the importance for Philadelphia of winning this Sunday in their visit to Dallas, second in the East with a 4-5 record, their fiercest rival who wants to complicate their path to defending the title.
