The matches between France and Argentina have become a great rivalry in recent years. Both teams faced off in the final of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Djibril Cisse didn't hide his annoyance and resentment towards Lionel Messi and his Albiceleste teammates. Argentina won their third World Cup after defeating France on penalties in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. However, the Albiceleste weren't well-liked by many. The South Americans had several clashes before and during the final tournament. Djibril Cisse didn't mince words and admitted to feeling "hatred" towards the Argentine players. Cisse still hasn't been able to get over his rivals' behavior in that match.
“I just feel a lot of hatred towards Argentinians (?) After seeing the images, I was angry. I feel a lot of hatred towards them,” the former Argentine player said in statements compiled by Ole.
Revenge against Messi
Djibril Cisse has a sweet revenge planned in his mind. The former Liverpool player hopes that France will win the 2026 World Cup. Cisse wants Argentina to be the opponent to beat them in the final, Lionel Messi's hypothetical last World Cup match.
“Clearly, today they are our main enemy (…) I want to get the third star in Messi's last World Cup match. We have two or three scores to settle with Argentina,” he declared.
There are only two possibilities for this to happen. Argentina and France must finish first or third in their group to face each other again in the final. If one finishes first and the other second in their group, the matchup moves to the semifinals.
