In Costa Rica they send a wink to Keylor Navas
Fernando Batista, Costa Rica coach, acknowledged that he has a pending conversation with Keylor Navas
The Costa Rican team was not in the 2026 World Cup. Miguel Herrera could not take them to the World Cup. Fernando Batista is the new coach. “Bocha” hinted that it has Keylor Navas for its process.
Fernando Batista hinted that he will have Keylor Navas during his process. However, “Bocha” must first contact the former Real Madrid goalkeeper to determine what his intentions are.
"Keylor has my respect because he is the best player in the history of Costa Rica. Today he is active, so surely at some point we will talk," said the Argentine strategist in statements compiled by ESPN.
Keylor Navas and his doubts
The veteran goalkeeper of the UNAM Pumas did not leave the Costa Rican team aside. Without confirming a second retirement, Navas acknowledged that he must analyze what his next step in his career would be. The goalkeeper “Tico” is 39 years old.
“My time in the national team… we have to see the moment, the conversations and what may come (…) Right now I think it is not the right time to say if I am going or if I am not going (…) We also have to have that conversation with the coaching staff, the national team and others, and see what the plans are,” Navas said in a press conference with his club.
Bad start of “Bocha”
Fernando Batista did not have a good start with the Costa Rican team. The Argentine strategist has directed four games with the “Tico” team and has conceded thirteen goals. Perhaps one of the aspects why Keylor Navas continues to enter the conversation for the 2030 World Cup.
In the young “Bocha” process, Costa Rica drew 2-2 against Jordan, lost 0-5 against Iran, lost 3-1 to Colombia and was defeated 3-0 by England. Batista does not yet celebrate the first victory of this project.
