Miguel Herrera has had a good start with Atlante. The “Potros de Hierro” are a club with history, but they currently have a modest squad in their return to Liga MX. Despite this, “Piojo” wants Atlante to appear again on the international level.

“El Piojo” has emphasized on several occasions the treatment he expects to be given to Atlante. Miguel Herrera highlights that this club is a team with history in Mexican soccer. Herrera plans to regain some of that respect in Liga MX, but he also hopes to do the same on the continent.

"We want to take Atlante to those international tournaments where it competed. These guys had not experienced it, but Atlante was already champion of a Concacaf tournament and we must convey that history to them and what this shield represents," Herrera said prior to the start of the Leagues Cup 2026.

So far, Atlante has played three games in its return to Liga MX. The “Potros de Hierro” lost in the first match against Necaxa, tied in the second match against Club América and then obtained their first victory against Cruz Azul. The club's motivation is through the sky.

"We are not going to stop working with the result for or against. Whether the results are very good or very bad, as long as the boys are willing, we are going to continue working," he added.

First challenge in Concacaf

Atlante will face Major League Soccer clubs again. Within the framework of the Leagues Cup 2026, the “Iron Colts” will face Vancouver Whitecaps, Real Salt Lake and Minnesota United. These will be the first three obstacles to qualify for the next round.
