They visualize Armando González in an important team in Europe
Mateo Chávez, AZ Alkmaar player, believes that "La Hormiga" can take a big leap in his career. Chávez believes that González can go to a top league
Armando González is one of the great promises of Mexican soccer. La “Hormiga” is one of the main figures of the Chivas de Guadalajara and his possible jump to European football is expected. However, Mateo Chávez considers that González has enough quality to go to an important league in the Old Continent.
Mateo Chávez plays for AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands' first division of soccer. The former Chivas de Guadalajara defender is accumulating very good minutes for the Dutch team. Chávez spoke about González and envisioned him in an important European tournament.
“I think ‘Hormiga’ can go to a great team and a great league,” said the 22-year-old winger. Mateo Chávez does not play in a tournament considered among the five best leagues in Europe. Those honors go to the local tournaments of Spain, England, France, Italy and Germany.
In fact, Mateo Chávez arrived at a “springboard tournament” and a competitive club. The former Tapatío player considers that Armando González can skip that stage. It is worth mentioning that this leap is not an easy step. Orbelín Pineda and José Juan Macías were two players who arrived in Spain from Liga MX. They both had a hard time adjusting.
"My case is different from Armando's, I think I went to Europe to find my place here (Mexican national team), to grow and I think I'm going to a great, formative club. I think Armando can skip that step because he has proven to take the next step, go to a great team and a great league," he insisted.
Armando González has been linked to several clubs in Europe. One of them was Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, a second-tier club in Europe. But “La Hormiga” has also been linked to several Bundesliga clubs.
But no path is predictable. Mateo Chávez took the “long way” and has done quite well. The Mexican defender played 34 games in the campaign, including duels in the UEFA Europa League and the Conference League. Chávez gained a lot of international exposure and was on the field for more than 1,700 minutes.
