A 150-year-old Hindu temple was demolished in Karachi, Pakistan. Due to this the people of Hindu community living in Pakistan are in panic. According to reports, there is a temple of Mari Mata in Soldier Bazaar, Karachi. This is more than 150 years old temple. It was demolished on Friday (July 14) night by an unknown builder to build a shopping plaza. It is being said that the land of the temple has been sold to a shopping plaza promoter for Rs 7 crore. After this, bulldozers were fired at the temple on Friday night in the presence of policemen. In June last year itself, idols of Hindu deities were vandalized in the Mari Mata temple.

Ram Nath Mishra Maharaj, the priest of Karachi's Shri Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir, told Dawn that the Mari Mata temple was built 150 years ago. We have also heard stories about ancient treasures buried in its courtyard. It is spread over about 400 to 500 square yards and it was discussed for some time that land grabbers were eyeing it.

Meanwhile, a member of the Madrasi Hindu community said that he was being forced to vacate the house by two persons, Emraan Hashmi and Rekha alias Naagin Bai. There was also talk that the temple had been sold by the two nominees to another party for an amount of Rs 70 million and the buyer was looking to build a commercial building there.

According to media reports, people of Hindu community living in Karachi are in panic due to this incident. Sanjeev, a Hindu resident of Korangi area, told the newspaper that six to eight people on a motorcycle came there and attacked the temple. Temples have often been the target of mob violence in Pakistan. Dozens of temples located on the banks of the Indus River in Kotri, Bhong city and the Sukkur-Multan motorway have been destroyed.

Ramesh, a Hindu community leader in the area, said the temple management was under pressure to vacate the premises for some time as the land was sold on forged documents to a developer who wanted to build a shopping mall on the plot. The Hindu community has demanded the Pakistan-Hindu Council, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the Inspector General of Sindh Police to intervene in the matter. At the same time, the Government of Pakistan says that the structure of the temple had become very dilapidated. Hence it was dropped.
