The alleged perpetrator of the multiple car accident that left one dead and 29 injured during the LGBTI Pride Day celebration in Berlin was killed in the town of Spandau, on the outskirts of the capital, during a police operation, several media initially reported this Sunday (07/26/2026) and was later confirmed by the capital's police spokesperson, Florian Nath.

Special forces were searching for Abdul B., a 21-year-old German man. “At around 6 p.m. the suspect in the attack in Tiergarten (park) was located in an area of ​​garden plots in Spandau,” Nath said. Seeing himself surrounded, “the suspect ran with a knife toward our troops,” who opened fire, he added.

“The suspect suffered such serious injuries that, although he could be revived by emergency doctors, he died at the scene,” said Nath. According to the police reconstruction, Abdul B. had fled after allegedly running over a crowd in Berlin's Tiergarten on Saturday night, and the police had not been able to find him in the home he shared with his family in the center of the capital or in other places that were examined.

Link with Islamic State

The Prosecutor's Office reported that B. had a record of injuries and robbery and in May of this year he had been sentenced to one year and ten months in prison for having tried to join the jihadist group Islamic State (IS) in Syria. He was then released on parole pending the court's resolution of the prosecution's appeal, which requested a longer sentence, and was meanwhile participating in a deradicalization program.

It has not yet been ruled out that the suspect had accomplices of some kind, and the police have arrested several people around him for questioning, although there is still no official information about their possible role in the attack.

Berlin's head of the Interior, Iris Spranger, told Bild that she was "grateful to the security forces for having located the attacker so quickly. It is an extraordinary achievement."
