Two young people in Texas arrested for abusing minors after cite them via social networks
Darville Reginald Allen, 19, and Abdul Saleem, 20, face charges of aggravated sexual assault of a minor
Two young people from Kingwood were arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Texas, accused of sexually assaulting two minors, aged 15, in a case that underscores the risks teenagers face when interacting with strangers through social networks.
Darville Reginald Allen, 19, and Abdul Saleem, 20, are facing charges of aggravated sexual assault of a minor. Allen's bail is set at $150,000, and Saleem's bail is set at $100,000, although both remain in custody at the county jail.
According to the investigation, on June 16, the suspects contacted the victims using a popular social media platform. Under the guise of "hanging out and listening to music," they lured them to the parking lot of the New Caney ISD football stadium. There, they brandished a firearm to intimidate them and then committed the assault.
The case reflects how predators can use technology and social media to approach minors, gain their trust, and compromise their safety.
After the attack, the victims showed great strength by telling their parents what happened, who immediately alerted authorities. Detectives from the Special Victims Unit began an investigation that quickly identified the attackers, Telemundo reported. Allen was arrested in an operation that included the Sheriff's Office SWAT team and the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force. Authorities used the case to remind parents of the importance of supervising their children's online interactions and talking to them about the potential dangers that exist on the internet.
