Trump asks Federal Reserve chairman to resign immediately
Trump demands immediate resignation of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell
“Too Late!!!” should resign immediately, Trump posted on Truth Social, using his nickname for Powell.
Trump wrote the post alongside a link to a Bloomberg news story that criticized Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte, who believes Congress should investigate Powell for allegedly lying during his recent Senate appearance.
In a Wednesday post on X, Pulte said Congress should investigate Powell over plans to renovate the central bank’s headquarters.
“I am calling on Congress to investigate Chairman Jerome Powell, his political bias, and his misleading testimony before the Senate, which justifies his removal for cause,” Pulte wrote in his X statement.
Trump has for months openly pressured the chairman of the independent Fed to cut interest rates, which are currently in a range of 4.25 percent to 4.5 percent, something the president believes is holding back economic growth economic.
Powell, who maintains that the Fed's decisions are based on economic rather than political analysis, declared on Tuesday that the impact of the tariffs announced by the White House has not yet been felt and advanced that there could be a rate cut in July.
Powell was appointed by Trump in 2018 and repeated in the position during Joe Biden's presidency (2021-2025). His current term ends in May 2026.
