Bobby Pulido wins Democratic primary in Texas and will challenge Republican Monica de la Cruz
The singer will compete for District 15 in the November election against Monica de la Cruz, who is a Trump ally
Texas singer Bobby Pulido won the Texas primary election, earning the right to challenge Republican Monica de la Cruz in District 15.
The Latin Grammy winner won with 67.5% of the vote, defeating Ada Cuellar, who obtained 32.5%.
Suzan DelBene, chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), highlighted Pulido as a “cultural icon” of the southern part of the state and as a “champion of families” in his district.
“Voters know and trust Bobby because he has been present in this community for decades,” DelBene added. "The same cannot be said of Monica De La Cruz, who has spent years lying to you. Bobby Pulido is the clear choice for South Texas voters who want to send someone to Congress who will truly be a voice for their values." In addition to being a singer, Pulido, 54, studied political science in San Antonio before launching his music career more than three decades ago. The November contest between Pulido and De La Cruz will be one of the most intriguing, given the Republican leanings in the district, where she won in 2024 with 57.1% of the vote, compared to 42.9% for then-candidate Michelle Vallejo. Pulido was born and raised in Edinburg, Texas, where he still resides with his wife, according to campaign information. "He is the proud father of four, raising his family in the same community that shaped him. The son of a farmworker turned musician, Bobby grew up surrounded by the values that define the South." "From Texas: hard work, humility, family, and faith," he adds. In addition to being a singer, Bobby Pulido is a small business owner whose experience motivated him to seek a position in Congress after dealing "with the challenges faced by so many entrepreneurs in the Valley."
