Democrats push Randy Villegas to run in key California seat
The DCCC included the businessman and educator in its star program to recover the Lower House
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced the incorporation of Randy Villegas to its prestigious Rojo a Azul (Red to Blue) program, an initiative reserved for candidates considered key in the Democratic strategy to regain the majority in the House of Representatives. The decision represents important political and financial support for Villegas, who seeks to unseat Republican David Valadao in California's 22nd Congressional District, a demarcation that has become one of the main battlegrounds heading into the elections of half term.
Villegas carries the voice of the Valley
Villegas, the son of Mexican immigrants, was born and raised in California's Central Valley. A businessman, auto shop owner and former member of a local school board, he has built his campaign around issues such as access to healthcare, reducing the cost of living and supporting working families.
The president of the DCCC, Suzan DelBene, highlighted that the candidate has a profile capable of connecting with the voters of the district. “Randy Villegas is a son of the Valley and has dedicated his career to fighting for working families that were forgotten,” said DelBene when announcing his incorporation into the program.
An increasingly competitive district
The CA-22 district has experienced significant political changes in recent years. Although President Donald Trump won the district by a margin of close to two percentage points, various analysts currently consider the race to be one of the most competitive in the country. The DCCC maintains that Valadao faces a more complicated scenario among the Latino electorate, which represents a significant part of the local population. Democrats argue that the Republican congressman's votes on issues related to health and social assistance have weakened his support in the region. Through the Red to Blue program, Villegas will receive strategic support, training, campaign resources and fundraising assistance, tools that could make CA-22 one of the most watched races of the next electoral cycle in the United States.
