Gas leak in Louisiana plant leaves 10 hospitalized and forces to evacuate the area
A toxic gas leak at an industrial plant in Duson led to the evacuation of nearby areas and the transfer of ten people to health care facilities.
A hazardous material leak recorded on Tuesday morning at an industrial facility in Duson, Louisiana, generated rapid mobilization of emergency teams and left at least ten people hospitalized.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. at the FIBA Technologies plant, according to state authorities. The cause was e a valve failure that caused the release of boron trifluoride, a gas known for its penetrating odor and irritant effects.
Evacuations and emergency response
As a preventive measure, authorities ordered the evacuation of surrounding areas, including businesses located in a nearby industrial park. Teams specialized in hazardous materials managed to contain the leak approximately one hour after the incident was detected.
Images released by authorities showed a white cloud rising from the facilities, which showed the initial magnitude of the chemical leak.
According to the official reports, six plant employees, three first responders and a worker from a nearby company were transferred They are in hospitals after having been exposed to gas. All are in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities later confirmed that evacuation and lockdown orders were lifted, ruling out any persistent threat to the community.
State agencies continue evaluating the causes of the incident and the safety conditions at the plant. So far, no major structural damages or significant environmental impacts have been reported.
