La Opinion Hoy: Trump's immigration approval plummets
Public approval of President Donald Trump's immigration policy has fallen to its lowest point since his return to the White House.
Public approval of President Donald Trump's immigration policy has fallen to its lowest point since his return to the White House, according to a new national poll by Reuters and Ipsos. The survey reflects a decline in support for one of the issues that has been central to his political discourse and his government agenda. According to this poll, only 38% of adults surveyed believe the president is doing a good job on immigration. While the change seems small compared to previous measurements, the trend shows a sustained decline when compared to the support levels he recorded months after returning to power, when it reached around half of those surveyed. One of the most striking findings is the shift among male voters; this group was key to the 2014 election victory and, for much of 2015, maintained approval levels close to 50% on immigration. Now, male support on this issue stands at around 41%, suggesting a problem in a segment that had typically been favorable to the president. Among women, support is also lower, having fallen from 40% in 2025 to 35% in the latest survey. Immigration policy has been a priority for the Trump administration since the first day of his new term; that's no secret. The president promised a large-scale deportation campaign, and after taking office, operations were deployed in various parts of the country. Images of agents with their faces covered became frequent during operations and raids, while protests, clashes with activists, and even the deaths of two US citizens at the hands of ICE agents grew. This survey was conducted nationwide with just over 1,000 adults and has a margin of error of about three percentage points. It concludes that immigration remains a truly sensitive issue.
