A coordinated operation between federal, state and municipal forces allowed the seizure of one of the largest arsenals found so far this year in Sonora, by seizing 81 long weapons, four machine guns, 128 magazines and 274,800 useful cartridges in a property located in San Luis Río Colorado.

The seizure was the result of intelligence work, security tours and compliance with a search warrant authorized by a judge.

Elements of the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Attorney General's Office (FGR), as well as state and municipal corporations that make up the State Security Board of Sonora participated in the operation.

In addition to the weapons and ammunition, the authorities seized a property that was allegedly used as a weapons storage center and a truck reported stolen.

According to information from the Security Cabinet released later, the property would be linked to Los Rusos, a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel related to the faction headed by Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias “El Mayito Flaco.”

Among the seized weapons are a .50 caliber Browning machine gun, two 7.62 millimeter caliber machine guns, one 5.56 caliber machine gun, 72 AK-47 type rifles, four 5.56 caliber rifles and one .223 caliber rifle.

The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, recognized the coordination between the different security institutions and stated that these types of actions contribute to weakening the operational capacity of criminal groups that operate in the entity.

So far, the authorities have not reported any people detained during the operation; However, they indicated that investigations continue to identify those responsible for the safekeeping and distribution of the arsenal.
