AFP journalists heard several explosions shortly after the Ukrainian air force warned kyiv residents via Telegram of the approach of ballistic missiles.

“According to preliminary information, one person sadly died as a result of the attack,” the kyiv military administration said on Telegram.

“Five other people were injured with varying degrees of severity,” he added.

According to the capital's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, the night attacks caused fires and damaged structures in several districts of the city.

In the central Dnipropetrovsk region, close to the front line, a Russian drone strike killed one person, according to local authorities.

Likewise, on the Russian side, a Ukrainian attack killed one person in the Kurks region, according to the local government.

The nighttime bombings come after a Ukrainian drone attack on two logistics centers left at least eight dead in western Russia on Saturday.

Moscow has launched missiles and drones against the Ukrainian capital almost daily since the start of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
