Eight dead and 19 injured in bus accident in Mexico

At least eight people were killed and 19 injured in a bus accident in the southeastern Mexican state of Veracruz, local authorities reported.
The bus crashed near a ravine in the town of Zontecomatlan, the state Civil Protection agency said Wednesday night, December 24.
“Unfortunately, the prosecutor's office has confirmed eight deaths,” the agency said in a statement.
“Nineteen injured people are receiving care and have been transferred to Chicontepec and Huayacocotla,” it added.
It was traveling from Mexico City to Chicontepec, Veracruz
According to the Mexican press, the bus was traveling from Mexico City to the town of Chicontepec.
Road accidents, which usually involve passenger buses or cargo trucks, are common in Mexico. They are often caused by speeding or mechanical failures.
At the end of November, ten people died and 20 others were injured in a bus accident in the western state of Michoacan.
