$5,000 Social Security: who will receive it on July 22
The SSA will send the last payment of the month on July 22. We tell you who gets paid that day and who can receive more than $5,000 dollars
The Social Security payment schedule for July is almost over and some beneficiaries could receive one of the highest deposits provided by the Social Security Administration (SSA). Next Wednesday, July 22, the agency will send the last payments of the month and, among them, there will be people whose monthly benefit exceeds $5,000 dollars thanks to their work history and the age at which they decided to retire.
Currently, more than 71.3 million people receive benefits administered by the SSA in the United States. To distribute payments in an orderly manner, the agency uses a calendar based primarily on the beneficiary's date of birth, so each group receives their money on a different Wednesday of the month.
Who will receive the Social Security payment on July 22?
Wednesday, July 22, is the turn of beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of any month. This group represents the third and final block of the regular July 2026 payment schedule.
The Social Security payment dates for this month were as follows:
It is important to remember that when a person receives benefits based on the work history of another, as is the case with some spouses or survivors, the SSA takes the date of birth of the worker who generated the benefit as a reference to determine the day of payment.
Additionally, some beneficiaries follow a different schedule. People who started receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 got their payment on Thursday, July 2, regardless of their date of birth. Normally, these beneficiaries receive their money on the 3rd of each month. However, the calendar was brought forward because that date coincided with a federal holiday.
That same day those who jointly collect Social Security and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program also received their benefit. In these cases, the SSI payment was previously sent on Wednesday, July 1.
Who can receive more than $5,000 from Social Security?
Although most beneficiaries receive smaller amounts, there is a group that can obtain a monthly payment of up to $5,181 in 2026.
According to the SSA, this maximum amount is reserved for those who reached the maximum income limit subject to Social Security for practically their entire working life, starting at age 22, and also decided to delay their retirement until they are 70 years old.
On the other hand, those who began receiving their retirement at full retirement age in 2026 can obtain a maximum benefit of $4,152 per month. If they chose to retire at age 62, the maximum benefit decreases to $2,969.
The monthly averages reported by the agency are as follows:
These figures represent national averages, so some beneficiaries may receive higher or lower amounts depending on their particular situation.
How does the SSA send Social Security payments?
The only way to receive benefits is through digital means, either by direct deposit into a bank account registered with the SSA or a Direct Express card.
Beneficiaries can update their financial information using the My Social Security online tool, helping avoid delays in future deposits.
