Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on a three-day state visit. This is his first visit to India by a Tanzanian President after assuming the office of President and after eight years. China now has military and economic relations with this African country, which was historically close to India. Desperate to get out of China's clutches, India is eyeing to build closer ties with Tanzania by signing economic and defense agreements.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Twitter that Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is visiting India to give a new impetus to relations. She will meet President Murmu and PM Narendra Modi on Monday. He and PM Modi will hold bilateral talks. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met the President of Tanzania on Sunday evening. He wrote on X: Feeling honored to meet the President.
15 agreements including defense will be signed
Tanzanian Foreign Minister January Joseph Makamba said the two countries would sign 15 agreements in various areas of cooperation. He said that we can achieve bilateral trade of US $ 10 billion in the next three years. He said that this is a very important visit for Tanzania.
Both countries had close relations till the 80s
India-Tanzania relations were close till the 80s. Julius Nyerere, the then President of Tanzania, was awarded the Jawaharlal Nehru Award in 1974 and the Gandhi Peace Prize in 1995. Cooperation with Tanzania is now critical to curbing China's influence in the Global South.

Many valuable minerals including diamonds, gold, nickel, coal and iron are present in large quantities in Tanzania. Apart from this, uranium is also present under the earth.
Apart from this, another rare mineral is found here whose name is Tanzanite, this metal used in jewelery is found only in Tanzania.
Tanzania's coastline is also 1424 km long and there is a possibility of finding huge quantities of gas and crude oil.
