Several people were stabbed at a Walmart in Michigan, and local authorities have a suspect in custody, according to state police.
The Michigan State Police announced the incident in an X post around 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, stating, "The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office is investigating a multiple stabbing incident at the Traverse City Walmart. The suspect is in custody; details are limited at this time."
Police are urging the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
Munson Healthcare reported via social media that 11 people were being treated at the region's largest hospital in northern Michigan. He added that he would provide updates as needed.
A Walmart corporate spokesman, Joe Pennington, said in an email that the company was “cooperating with law enforcement and would refer questions to them at this time.”
