Walmart will pay millionaire sum for errors in charges
The retail chain faces a $5.6 million lawsuit for violating the false advertising and unfair competition law.
According to a statement from the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office in California, the retail chain Walmart must pay its consumers a million dollar sum after violating the false advertising and unfair competition laws in the state.
According to the entity, retailer is facing a $5.6 million consumer protection lawsuit after it was found that its stores overcharged consumers on products such as fruits and vegetables, baked goods, among others.
In this regard, District Attorney Jeff Rosen stated that when someone takes an item to the register to scan it, the price should be correct. They expect it. California expects it. My office expects it, and we will enforce the law to ensure that, he said.
The details of the lawsuit indicate that the retailer was charged in at least four California counties, where customers claimed that the prices were higher than those published.
This is not the first time that the supermarket chain has faced an accusation like this. In 2012, it settled for approximately $2.1 million for overcharging consumers.
