The minimum wage for workers in California will increase to $17.40 per hour starting January 1, 2027, Governor Gavin Newsom announced in a statement.
In a statement, the Newsom administration said the state minimum wage is expected to have a 50-cent increase over the current minimum wage of $16.90 per hour, which is nearly two and a half times more than the federal minimum of $7.25 per hour.
A worker who works 40 hours a week would have the opportunity starting January 1, 2027 to receive an additional $20 thanks to the minimum wage announced by Newsom.
