This week, the second largest pharmacy chain in the United States, Walgreens, announced its latest round of closures, this as part of a restructuring process after being acquired in August of last year by the private equity firm Sycamore Partners.
According to company reports, before the acquisition by Sycamore Partners, Walgreens had approximately 8,500 stores in the United States; To date it has nearly 8,000 establishments, of which 1,200 stores will close due to poor performance; 100 of these stores will close this year.
