The price of the dollar in Mexico registered moderate movements during the first hours of this Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The price of the US currency is followed daily by millions of people who make payments in dollars, receive remittances or exchange currencies in banks and exchange houses.
This Tuesday, the dollar stands at an average of $17.29 pesos per unit. The figure represents a slight increase compared to the close of Monday, May 18, when the US currency ended the day at $17.27 pesos, according to information from the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
During the opening of operations, the dollar reached an average of $17.36 Mexican pesos, equivalent to an advance of 0.46% compared to the previous close, according to Dow Jones data. In the last week, the US currency accumulates an increase of 1.09%; However, in annual comparison it still registers a drop of 8.78%.
The recent behavior of the exchange market also reflects a stage of lower volatility. Currently, this indicator stands at 5.72%, a level lower than the reference volatility of 7.61%, which points to moderate movements during the day.
On the other hand, Banxico reported that the FIX exchange rate published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) for this Tuesday, May 19, was established at $17.2928 pesos per dollar. Likewise, the organization detailed that the exchange rate for the payment of obligations in US dollars was set at $17.3477 pesos per unit.
The FIX exchange rate is determined by Banxico on banking business days based on the average of the wholesale exchange market quotes and is published one day before in the DOF.

Financial institutions present significant variations in the purchase and sale price of the dollar this Tuesday. The quotes at the window are as follows:
In the banking comparison, BBVA maintains one of the lowest sales quotes of the day, while Banamex registers one of the highest purchase prices for those seeking to sell dollars.
In banking institutions in Mexico and the northern border, the dollar for sale is around $17.65 pesos, while the average purchase is $16.52 pesos per unit. On the other hand, the exchange houses in Mexico and on the Tamaulipas border have an average sales price of $17.25 pesos and a purchase price close to $16.75 pesos. In Tijuana, the dollar stands this Tuesday at $16.60 pesos for purchase and $16.90 pesos for sale.
Remittance companies also show variations in their exchange rates. Western Union quotes the dollar at $16.91 Mexican pesos, while MoneyGram sets the exchange rate at $17.77 pesos per unit.
