The Assam government has threatened to sack the head teachers of 102 schools who performed poorly in the class X state board examinations. The Class X results were declared earlier this week and the performance of these schools has been found to be very poor. Out of these 102 schools in Assam, not a single student could pass in 25, while 70 schools scored below 10 per cent and in seven schools only 10 per cent students passed.

Answer sought in seven days

A show cause notice has been issued by the Department of Secondary Education asking the heads of these institutions to explain why they should not be dismissed from work. The department has asked the concerned schools to respond within seven days. The department has taken this step after the results of the board exams were declared on June 7.

Director of the department Mamta Hojai said that we have given 7 days time to these schools to file their reply. This time more than 4 lakh students had appeared in the tenth board examination and out of these, only about 2.29 lakh students have been able to pass. In such a situation, the school principals can be punished for the poor performance of the students and the Assam government has adopted a strict attitude regarding this.

This time there has been a decline of 56 percent in the 10th results as compared to last year. Along with this, the results of 31 students have been withheld by the department and the results of 209 students have been canceled.

These students did top

In the results, Raktopal Saikia, a student of St. Mary's High School, North Lakhimpur, topped the state with 597 marks out of 600. Similarly, Bhuyashi Medhi stood second with 596 and two other students including Mirdupavan Kalita stood third with 595 marks. The names of 4 students were also included in the results of class X, who topped the fourth position in the state.
