Fugitive wanted for attempted murder arrested in Florida after running over an officer
D Architray Sapp, 27, was captured after a chase in Winter Haven. He had been on the run for more than two years and faces multiple charges.
A man wanted for more than two years for attempted first-degree murder was arrested on Saturday, August 2, in Winter Haven, Florida, after ramming into a police officer while attempting to flee from authorities.
The Winter Haven Department of Public Safety reported that the subject, identified as D'Architray L. Sapp, 27, also faces charges of assaulting a peace officer, unlawful possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m., when officers responded to an apartment complex after receiving an alert about the presence of a person with an active warrant. Upon arriving at the scene, Sapp ran toward an apartment upon seeing the officers.
After confirming he was inside, officers evacuated the occupants and attempted to arrest him as he exited the building. At that point, according to the police report, Sapp broke away from the officers and, while fleeing, deliberately pushed an officer, causing her to fall to the ground. Despite the attack, the officer was unharmed.
Use of Tasers and Transfer to Jail
The chase continued until two officers managed to restrain Sapp using Tasers. After being treated at a hospital, he was released and taken to the Polk County Jail.
In addition to the new charges, Sapp faced three outstanding warrants, including attempted first-degree murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, flight to elude arrest, giving false information to authorities, driving with a suspended license, and criminal mischief.
"I'm thankful that our officers were not injured during the encounter with this violent offender," said Police Chief Vance Monroe, who praised the performance of the officers involved.
